Accountabilities/Responsibilities: *Responsibility for medical translational aspects of early clinical development strategy up to and including exploratory Proof of Concept, ensuring innovative and fast-to PoC plans. * Providing early medical translational support to project teams and contributing on the identification of biomarkers throughout the clinical development. *Ensure optimal use of biomarkers for clinical development programs of assigned projects in close collaboration with other team members. *Medical input and expertise in the development of surrogate markers or endpoints for revealing activity in the respective indication (as therapeutic effect or as side effect) to be used in clinical studies. These surrogate markers may be clinical endpoints or biomarkers using biochemistry, molecular or imaging or any other appropriate technologies. The implementation of these surrogate parameters will be carried out in close collaboration with other Translational Medicine Scientists, Biomarker Experts and Pharmacogenomic Experts, Clinical Research Teams as well as Research Teams. Essential Skills & Capabilities: *MD (specialization in Respiratory area preferred), PhD would be a plus. *Fluency in English. German is not mandatory. *Experience in exploratory medicine. Strong experience in translational research and early clinical development preferred. *Knowledge of early and overall drug development process. *Experience in the implementation of biomarkers in drug development. *Understanding of the clinical application, evaluation and analysis of biomarkers. *Ability to present a well-reasoned business case, and influence other departmental leaders to support cross functional implementation of new initiatives and projects. *Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external opinion leaders. *Ability to work in a matrix type environment.
